Source image
This is a reduced size version of my original photograph. It was shot as part of an exercise showing the relationship between a camera’s f-stop setting and the Depth of Field (the area of sharp focus).
I don’t normally record the various settings on the Kaleidoscope function, as I don’t want to feel limited. Each image below (also reduced to avoid extensive download time) has those details recorded for this page. Each cropped image was run through the K function at 2 different settings, giving a hint at the full range of options that could be investigated.
The top 4 rows of numbers are directly from the software. The “c-_” indicates whether the source image was cropped (to be square) in the precise Middle, Left edge or Right edge. The more detailed notes on the last 2 images indicate the source file was cropped at an in-between spot, and then rotated 90* for additional options.
The first variation was re-done after adjusting the hues and other aspects of the source file and then hand-cropped to become a card in volume 3 of Digital Gryphon Kaleidoscope Oracle. The second image (top, right column) was tweaked and is now available printed on demand on t-shirts.
